How to Swap Your Driving Test
You can swap your driving test with another learner driver if you both already have tests booked and want each other's slot.
THE RULES
- You can only swap your OWN test (instructors cannot do it for you)
- You must both agree to swap the exact date, time and test centre
- It counts as 1 of your 2 allowed test changes
- You must request the swap at least 10 working days before the earliest test
- You must both have at least 1 change left
- You must both have the same type of test (weekday with weekday, weekend with weekend, etc.)
- Check your instructor is available for the new date
LOCATION RULES
You can only swap with someone who is booked at:
- •the same test centre
- •one of the 3 nearest test centres
- •or the centre you originally booked
This rule must be met for BOTH of you.
HOW TO SWAP
- 1Call DVSA on 0300 200 1122 (choose option 1)
- 2One of you calls DVSA to request the swap
- 3DVSA will call the other learner (on the number on their booking)
- 4You both confirm you agree to the swap
- 5DVSA completes the swap
You both need to be available at the same time
BEFORE YOU CALL
Make sure you have:
- •Your driving licence number
- •Your test booking reference
- •The other learner's test booking reference
Do NOT share personal details with other learners. DVSA will NEVER ask for full card details.
IMPORTANT
- !Do not call unless you are both free to take part in the call
- !DVSA will not complete the swap if either of you fails security checks, does not agree, or has no changes left
- !If the other learner does not answer or their phone number is wrong, the swap cannot go ahead. Both tests will stay the same.
AFTER SWAPPING
- You will have the other learner's original date, time and test centre
- They will have yours
- Your booking reference and payment details stay the same
- You won't get a confirmation email straight away, but your reminder email will show the new details
